EXCURSION TO TSOMGO LAKE AND BABA MANDIR
After breakfast, embark on an excursion to Tsomgo Lake, situated at an elevation of 12,400 feet (3,780 meters), approximately 43 kilometers from Gangtok. The journey takes about 3 hours one way. Tsomgo Lake, with its cool, scenic beauty, averages a depth of 50 feet. Following your visit, continue to Baba Mandir, located 16 kilometers from Tsomgo Lake, at an altitude of 13,100 feet (3,994 meters). Note that foreign nationals are permitted to visit Tsomgo Lake only with a valid permit and must be part of a group of at least two. Return to Gangtok for an overnight stay at Hotel Renam. Optional: You may also opt to visit Nathula Pass, situated at 14,140 feet (4,310 meters), approximately 20 kilometers from Tsomgo Lake. The journey to Nathula follows the same route as to Baba Mandir for the initial 16 kilometers, then splits—right for Baba Mandir and left for Nathula. Nathula visits require an additional permit, which is subject to availability and must be arranged 72 hours in advance. The permit is allocated via a lottery system and is not available for last-minute arrangements. Nathula is closed to tourists on Mondays and Tuesdays. For Nathula permit processing, four passport-sized photographs and a photo ID (such as Voter ID, Passport, or Driving License) are required. Pan Card and Aadhar Card are not accepted. Please note that there is no refund if the permit is confirmed but you are unable to visit due to reasons such as landslides, heavy rainfall, VIP movements, or health issues.
